Health Care Freedom Act Passes

The Federal Health Care Reform legislation recently signed into law by President Obama forces uninsured individuals to purchase health insurance or face penalties imposed by the IRS.

The Florida House and Senate passed a measure intended to send a clear signal to Washington that Floridians reject intrusive health care mandates.

The measure proposes an amendment to the State Constitution prohibiting the government from interfering with an individual’s personal health care decisions.

Representative Plakon, sponsor of the measure, issued the following statement:

The government has never required citizens to purchase a product from a private for-profit company as a condition of lawful residence in the United States. As elected officials, it is our duty to protect citizens from Federal and State mandates that strip away the very freedoms our forefathers risked their lives for. With this vote, the Florida House has empowered the citizens of this great State to vote in November and make their voice heard on whether medical freedom is a fundamental right that must be protected in our State Constitution. I humbly thank all of the grassroots supporters and my House colleagues for looking beyond politics by pursuing public policy that ensures that we remain free souls under God and not property of the State.

Since the measure proposes an amendment to the State Constitution it will need to receive 60% of the vote to be ratified and made law.

The Night Before Christmas

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN’T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
‘SANTA DON’T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY! COUNTRY, MY CORPS.’

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN’T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, ‘CARRY ON SANTA,
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.’

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
‘MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.’

Let’s Say Thanks…

As we prepare to celebrate this holiday season with friends and family let’s say thanks to the brave men and women of our military who are stationed around the world, and unable to share Thanksgiving with their families this year. It is only through their service and sacrifice, and soldiers before them, we live in the freest country on earth.

Lets Say Thanks and let them know how much they are respected and appreciated.

And remember…

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the VETERAN,
who serves under the Flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the Flag,

Let us honor them all on this day.

Never Forget

All too often we forget what we are really celebrating on the fourth of July. It is not about the celebration itself but the reason for it. It is about the men and women (our founding fathers) who were willing to sacrifice everything for the cause of freedom. And it is about those that made the ultimate sacrifice (our troops) in blood. Today remember all our troops that are in harm’s way around the world and be thankful that they are willing to die so that we may live free!

Lets Say Thanks to one of our soldiers today!

The New Slavery

Lincoln, our first Republican President freed the slaves from the oppression of the south. Obama, our first Black President, in the course of a few months has made us all slaves to the government.

It started with the bailouts, then grew to a hostile takeover of the banking system and the auto industry. And the administration isn’t done there. They are planning a hostile takeover of the healthcare industry- which is equal to 1/7 of our economy.

This is not a war on the recession but a war on prosperity. With the spending out of control, Congress is coming up with new ways to tax us to pay for it. They have already raised taxes on tobacco and are considering taxing soda and junk food. But it doesn’t stop there. They are about to pass cap and trade which will be the biggest tax increase ever on the American public. In addition, they are talking about adding a Value Added Tax (VAT)- which is an additional Federal Sales Tax on goods and services.

Currently we have to work 120 days to pay what we owe in taxes. This year – if you started paying taxes on Jan 1- and you worked a standard 5 day work week you would have to work until June 17 to get to your 120 days. While literally 120 is about 1/3 of your year. It would take you about half the year to pay it.

If Congress adds anymore taxes to our already burdened public it would literally add months of more service to the government making us all slaves to the New Republic of Obama.

The Greatest Gift

This Christmas I was reminded that the Greatest Gift of all is Love. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” This holiday we are not only reminded of Jesus sacrifice- but also those of our soldiers who willingly gave their lives that we may live free. Many have died and many more have spent Christmas away from their families. During this new year Let’s Say Thanks to our troops and show them how much we love them!

Crying In Their Milk

As predicted yesterday, many liberals have been spotted crying in their milk. They just can’t bring themselves to say one good thing about the death of Zarqawi. Yesterday on the evening news, they all seemed to come out in favor of the attack. But that was when they had a camera staring at them in the face. Cowards!

But only a few hours later when talking to the paper or writing their blogs their attitudes had changed. I guess that’s so they can say” I was for it before I was against it.”

Here are a few of the comments reported in papers and blogs. Nancy Pelosi comments can be seen on the News page.

The comments below are what liberals really think about the killing of Zarqawi yesterday but didn’t have the guts to say to a tv camera.

"This is just to cover Bush’s [rear] so he doesn’t have to answer” for Iraqi civilians being killed by the U.S. military and his own sagging poll numbers, "Iraq is still a mess — get out." -Rep. Pete Stark, California Democrat.

Zarqawi was a small part of "a growing anti-American insurgency" and that it’s time to get out.
"We’re there for all the wrong reasons," -Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich, Ohio Democrat

As the civilized world justly celebrates the long overdue killing of Abu M al-Zarqawi, it must recall that his death was brought about by what has come to be known as “targeted assassination” or "targeted killings." This is the same technique that has been repeatedly condemned by the international community when Israel has employed it against terrorists who have murdered innocent Jews.- Alan Dershowitz

I suspect this will only get worse in the days to come. As all Democrats seem to know is doom and gloom. Their leader Nancy Pelosi is already using this as a stepping stone as part of a larger debate on the war in Iraq. (ie. reasons to bring the troops home immediately).

But we as Americans and Republicans need to stand for Freedom at all costs. The founders did no less. In the famous words of Patrick Henry, “Give me liberty or give me death.”

A Bad Day for Liberals

Just Yesterday, I was forced to watch the movie Uncovered, a moveon.org anti-war, anti-Bush film about Iraq. And again, I found myself defending our President, our troops and the war on terror.

This morning I woke up to the wonderful news that terror mastermind Al-Zarqawi, Bin Laden’s #2 guy was dead. This is a good Day for Freedom, A Bad Day for Liberals.

Liberals who refuse to acknowledge that the war in Iraq is part of the larger war on terror. And further refuse to acknowledge Al Qaeda’s presence in Iraq. Today they are crying in their milk. Because their case is weak once again. Everything that liberals have professed about this war is about to be exposed as a lie.

The confirmed kill of Zarqawi is good for Iraqis who’s freedom has been further extended. And I rejoice with them in that freedom. And it is good for our troops- who work hard to secure our freedom daily. And I am grateful for their sacrifice. And it is also good for Bush. And I am glad for his unwavering position.

But more than that I hope this restores American’s confidence in our President. He deserves nothing less tha our respect and support. If we can get the #2 guy, the #1 guy can’t be far behind. And because of that I stand today defending our President, our troops and the war in terror.

Overheard

I was in the lunch room the other day at school when I heard a student explaining his political views. First, he stated I am not a Republican or a Democrat. Immediately, I thought to myself- “Please don’t say you’re a moderate.” The next thing that came out of his mouth was shocking. He said, “I am a captialist.” He went on to explain how he was a strict captailist. Stating, “I am a captialist, but I am not conversative. I am a captialist, but not liberal.” He further explained his views on business and the economy- and how he felt that he was a man without a party. I was sad. Sad to hear that he didn’t think conseratives were pro-captialists.

But it is understandable when you see what has been going on in the Senate this week with “Big Oil”. Liberals made a push for the Windfall Profits Tax again- and many conservatives are ready to latch onto it. This is a dangerous idea. it almost reminds me of Marxism- punishing companies for doing well. Especially when there are many pro-capital solutions to the problem.

First of all, we haven’t had a new refinery in this country in over 35 years. And some of the ones that we do have are now shut down. A pro-capitalist would push for new refinining capabilities to increase oil production.

Second, a pro-capitalist would be for drilling in ANWAR and exploring other places for new sources of oil. Yet, liberals have stopped this exploration at every turn saying it causes environmental damage.

Third, a pro-capitalist would ease restrictions on special enviromentally friendly blends and lower taxes. Lower taxes? you ask. I heard this bit of trivia the other day. The gas companies make about 9¢ profit on each gallon of gasoline, while the government makes 50¢-65¢ on each gallon. Of course that is just the feds. That doesn’t include state, local and sales tax.

Now that is outrageous. Isn’t it about time that we do something about the windfall profits of the government?

Let’s take back our party and those people who consider themselves pro-capitalists.
